Few historical eras fit the vibe of videogaming as well as Ancient Rome. Would you want to play as a Medieval mud harvester? No thanks. A Tudor Groom of the Stool? Nah, you're alright. An Emperor amassing a world-conquering society? YES + PLEASE!
Putting the comedy gold into the Golden Age, Psyop and agency Wieden+Kennedy Amsterdam have created a deliciously cheeky spot for upcoming Ubisoft title Anno 117: Pax Romana, a city-building strategy game set in the Roman Empire.
Directed by Todd + Kylie, the film eschews CG recreations, instead augmenting footage pulled straight from the gameplay, enhanced with things like singing statues (a homage to an earlier, beloved marketing moment for the fans), original music, and some cheeky nods to the Anno community.
