Directed by Axel Byrfors through Slutet är nära, the promo for Boko Yout’s single 9-2-5 features the unhinged antics of the singer’s alter ego Mordecai.

A privileged dropout suddenly thrown into the realities of the labour market, Mordecai is plunged into a fever dream of labour, identity and illusion. Caught in a spiral of motivational mantras, productivity hacks and performative ambition, he exhibits peculiar bouts of buffoonery.

With delightfully loopy visuals, theatrical performances and unsettling settings, the video draws on various sources from Jung to Vodun, a West African religion involving rituals, music, dancing and the veneration of ancestral spirits.

The singer, aka Paul Adamah, comments: “This is Mordecai's ‘red pill’ moment. He’s been kicked out of school, lost his flat and his income, and ends up obsessed with entrepreneurial clichés and morning routines. It’s absurd, but it’s real – a reflection of how many people try to fix systemic issues with personal discipline. I wanted the track to feel chaotic, desperate and driven by false hope.”
