Given that this week’s news raises fears that women’s rights are to be plunged into the dark ages again, All In Action Fund's film drawing parallels between the 17th-century Salem witch trials and today’s political climate, seems all the more timely.

Created by Klick Health, with social impact production company Taking Over Films and director Gandja Monteiro, The Trial weaves a powerful narrative using the real words of both those fighting for reproductive freedoms and anti-abortionist policy makers.

Words such as: “It makes no difference why or how that child ended up in that womb. It’s about killing a child because you weren’t responsible enough to keep your skirt down. It’s not your body anymore.” — North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson (Jan. 24, 2019, Facebook Live)

The director commented, “This project was about creating a sense of déjà vu – showing how today’s fight against abortion rights feels like history repeating itself.”

The film’s co-writer and Klick Health Group CD Amy Fortunato explained: “By crafting our script entirely of real-world present-day quotes, The Trial reminds us how far we’re slipping backward, as abortion bans across the US have criminalised women and healthcare providers, placing them in danger even when lives are at stake."
