This not-so-comedic campaign for real estate development company Taj Misr, created by 7 Advertising and directed by Sherif Mounir through One Stop Shop, shows how three employees take their work so seriously that they’ve forgotten how to have a laugh.
In each deadpan spot, an awkward protagonist makes a cringe-worthy attempt at a joke; one woman makes uncomfortable atmosphere with her in-laws over dinner, a dad embarrasses his son with a crude party trick, and an uncle’s birthday prank goes down like a lead balloon.
The concept evolved from the Egyptian colloquialism that a person who does not care about work is said to be joking, while a person who is serious about their work is said not to be joking.
