While it’s neither flashy nor high-tech, this meditative short film directed by Tom & Matt for the National Trust caught our attention with its clever use of a simple technology that works in harmony with the natural landscape.
It features 21 water-powered sculptures brought to life by the natural flow of the River Neath in Wales, UK, with a total of 168 unique paddles each holding a frame of the animated story. The calming sound of the flowing river is layered with a jolly acoustic soundtrack which gradually picks up pace, perfectly bringing the whimsical visuals of dancing fish and soaring geese to life.
Created entirely in-camera, the project aims to highlight the importance of keeping the UK waterways flowing with clean, fresh water.
