Stoking the rumour fire around his long-awaited Don’t Be Dumb release, A$AP Rocky’s newly dropped music video for Punk Rocky sees the rapper struggling to make his garage-band dreams a reality.
Set on a manicured, picket-fenced suburban street that recalls the pastel paranoia of Edward Scissorhands’ fictional neighbourhood (a visual compounded with the appearance of Winona Ryder as an intrigued next-door onlooker), the film leans into anarchic visuals while the track itself veers into unexpectedly surf-tinged territory.
Directed by Rocky alongside Folkert Verdoorn and Simon Becks through magna studios, the film is peppered with sharp visual gags and considered production design choices, making it an endless curiosity from which it is hard to look away.
