Wide-open fjords, hardy fishing villages nestling in stunning shorelines, the Westfjords region offers some of Iceland’s most jaw-dropping landscapes.
Yet amid the topographical majesty is something quietly magical, and it’s this that Ingi captures in this understated film.
Produced by Norður and shot in December over four days, it is a gentle portrait of life, love and community during festivities in the northern Westfjords towns of Ísafjörður, Flateyri, and Þingeyri.
Titled Ómur jóla (echoes of Christmas), it is inspired by the Westfjords Christmas psalm Kirkjan ómar öll (the church is resounding) by composer Sigvaldi Kaldalóns.
The director comments: "At its heart, the film is about time — how it passes, how it connects us, and the quiet beauty of the moments we hold on to."
