Despite communication being easier than ever before, with devices that can connect us to the entire world in our pockets, it’s still surprisingly difficult to address the things that matter most with the people who matter most.
With this in mind, Vodafone and The Elephant Room have joined forces to create The Open Line; a campaign encouraging parents to break the silence around online safety and start talking to their teens about what’s really happening behind the screen.
Using the visual of a bright red bench paired with a red phone, placed in public spaces, the hero film shows parents sitting down, picking up the handset and listening to the real experts of the online world: teenagers themselves.
Produced through Dark Energy Films and directed by David Stoddart, the success of the film, and the campaign as a whole, is from the genuine feeling of authenticity - the heartache of the subjects countered by terrific conversations with the young experts.
“We wanted to create something unmistakably human,” said Nina Taylor, Executive Creative Director at The Elephant Room. “In a world where so much of teenage life happens behind screens, The Open Line is about real-life, emotional connection.”
