Telling the tale of Lahout’s, a family-owned ski shop in the White Mountains of New Hampshire that has been in operation for the past 100 years, North Country is a compelling documentary project that focuses on story over brand.
Produced as a joint project between nine global brands - North Face, Burton, Icelantic Skis, Merrell, Keen, K2, Salomon, Kuhl, and Prana - the film eschews self-promotion to instead champion an independent family-owned retailer that has beaten the Great Depression, World War II, the Dot Com Crash, and the Great Recession.
Shot by Stept Studios' award-winning director Nick Martini and cinematographer Cam Riley, the documentary shares the tales of impressive (yet cantankerous) Joe Lahout and his family as they detail the shop's place in the community in the rugged, unforgiving landscape of the north country.
“We loved how this project came together," says Meredith Rodriguez, Head of Marketing and Development at Stept Studios. "This model of funding provides an ideal opportunity for brands closely aligned from a values perspective to create an artful piece that speaks to shared history and captivating personal stories."
