The Triple the Vote initiative released today includes a brilliantly edited film written and helmed by UKMVA-winning writer-director, Abigail Wilson.
Set to Mount Kimbie’s track Delta, the film tells the story of four friends hitting the group chat to share the daily frustrations that make up the life of a young person living in this country today.
Shot using multiple camera rigs in and around London last weekend, it aims to boost voter turnout amongst young people at the UK’s upcoming general election. Based on a simple concept backed by behavioural science, the campaign targets people already committed to voting and asks them to choose three other people and encourage them to vote, too, in the hope that the sub-optimal status quo might change.
The director, who makes a cameo appearance in the film, explains, “I wanted to write something that reflects the types of discussions myself and friends are repeatedly having. Showing a group of mates from all over the UK battling some harsh realities right now felt real, and right for this. Triple the Vote is about encouraging people who share your values to show up for their beliefs by showing up at the polls on July 4. Voting is a privilege and indispensably important. I couldn’t not jump on this.”
The film was pulled together within three weeks as part of a self-initiated development process by Park Pictures. “As a production company known for nurturing young talent, there was no question that we would support the Triple the Vote initiative.” said Simone Sebastian, Head of Talent and New Business at Park Pictures.
