Created by Los GoodFellas in collaboration with the Special Olympics and the Charities Aid Foundation bank, this powerful and beautifully produced short film, directed by Alejandro Carreno through Los Notarios portrays the injustices experienced by people with intellectual disabilities in Latin America.

Feeling more like an extravagant theatre production than a commercial, Independencia blends incredible costumes, intricate sets and seamless transitions between scenes to bring historical-painting-inspired vignettes, such as Liberty Leading the People by Eugène Delacroix, to life. At the heart of each image, people with Down Syndrome take on the lead roles, highlighting their continued fight for autonomy.

This metaphor related to the independence movement was coined by Los Goodfellas to develop the communication campaign with which Special Olympics Latin America and CAF - the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean - seek to raise awareness about the right of people with intellectual disabilities to live and enjoy independence.
