Created pro bono by Miami agency MEL, this powerful new PSA for the Ad Council and NHTSA (US Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) aims at preventing ‘buzzed’ driving across the United States.

According to recent research, in the US, alcohol-impaired driving claims a life every 42 minutes and as summer party time kicks off, July and August have historically seen higher rates of drunk driving fatalities, hence this new iteration of the Buzzed Driving Prevention initiative.

Directed by Ariel Danziger, through Landia, the film Lost in a Flash depicts a father whirling his son around in glee until another type of rotation has tragic consequences. The spot is designed to resonate with Hispanic male drivers (21-34), showing how one poor decision behind the wheel can erase everything you live for in an instant.

“A crash caused by buzzed driving doesn’t just impact one person, it ripples through families and communities,” said NHTSA Chief Counsel Peter Simshauser, “this new PSA is a critical reminder that buzzed driving is drunk driving. Plan ahead and make safe choices.”
