The fun thing about being Taylor Swift, is that if you want to make a music video about being a nerd with a pet rock, featuring an all-star cast including Domhnall Gleeson, Greta Lee and Lewis Capaldi, you just can.

Directed by the pop queen herself through Merman, this wonderfully whimsical promo for her track Opalite was conceived on the couch of British TV host Graham Norton, when Swift appeared on his show alongside the celebrities who now feature in it.

Brought to life through eccentric 90s styling, the six-minute film follows two lovable, awkward loners, played by Swift and Gleeson, who seek companionship in inanimate objects before stumbling upon a magical chemical potion that ultimately leads them to each other.

The film is peppered with playful cameos along the way – from Cillian Murphy’s face on a shopping mall poster to Jodie Turner-Smith as an 80s exercise video instructor, all building to a brilliantly kitsch finale: a sparkling dance routine performed in turquoise sequin tracksuits to a distinctly unimpressed audience.
