Shiny’s biggest event of the year returned to Havas’ amphitheatre on March 12th, with an exciting lineup of the latest, must-see work in emerging directing talent.

Attendees from production and post companies, agencies, and brands gathered to a selection of great films. Over 70% of the shortlist were films by directors from under-represented demographics, a hallmark of Shiny’s drive to move the needle on director diversity.

Havas’ Head of Film Louise Bonnar, ECD Dan Cole, Senior Creatives Alex Jones and Emily Comacho, Assistant Producer Ella Myerscough-McClymont along with Prose on Pixels’ Head of Production Flo Clive selected winners, and the event sponsors contributed additional prizes.

Winners

Break The Cycle Directed by Joseph Morel for The Film & TV Charity, this piece won a half a day in Grade and half a day in Audio on an upcoming project with No.8.

We Go Places Created by Carlos Mario Rodriguez, a freelance LA based director, this earned a location package from LS Productions.

Take What’s Yours Directed by director duo DON Prod, a recent signing to Rebel at Rogue Films, this film for brand Two Tone secured a free grade from Selected Works.

All three directors have the opportunity to create a mock pitch for an existing Havas brief. Havas have also generously offered to meet with all of the shortlisted directors from the night for a chance to gain some career insight and advice.

“Here at Havas, we hugely value creativity and are passionate about supporting fresh talent entering the industry,” said Havas’ Louise Bonnar & Dan Cole.

“Judging the shortlist was an incredibly tough task, there were so many excellent entries covering such a broad spectrum of work. We loved all the work so much, and it was difficult just picking 3, so we decided to award a prize to everyone, which is the opportunity to come into the agency to meet us and chat through our process. We are excited for the 3 prize winners to also have the opportunity to work on a 'mock' pitch process with us”
