In collaboration with NORD DDB, supermarket chain Lidl in Finland launches this brilliantly silly spot announcing the start of BBQ season with an epic procession of wandering grills.
Directed by Pete Riski through Directors Guild Helsinki, the film combines practical effects and AI-assisted CGI to follow chef and TV personality Henri Alén as a Pied Piper figure, leading grills out of winter hibernation and towards Lidl.
“It’s a simple but extremely strong concept. Once we found the tone, everything else followed quite naturally. The humour comes from how the story keeps growing, from the perspective of a classic underdog into something unexpectedly epic. We wanted to keep it playful but told in a very classic cinematic style,” says director Pete Riski.
