While driving under the influence continues to be an issue in Ireland, there is another worrying trend today: a rise in the social acceptance of getting behind the wheel after drinking. Since 2019, the normalising of drink driving has risen by 12 per cent, according to the Road Safety Authority.
This PSA for the organisation, directed by Merman's Zak Emerson, produced by Butter, subtly transforms a convivial pub scene into something darker and more sanguinary, revealing how the mates of a doomed motorists can have blood on their hands.
According to Madhumita Chandrasekaran, Planning Director, Forsman & Bodenfors: “Our aim with this campaign was to get Ireland talking about how drink driving is creeping back up again. As much as it is ultimately the individual driver’s choice, we wanted to highlight the important role their friends can play in helping to prevent it.
