Continuing on from the success of the artist's recently-released song Disease, which similarly taps into her darker roots, American singer-songwriter Lady Gaga has unveiled this mesmerising promo for her catchy new track Abracadabra, skilfully directed by Love Song’s Bethany Vargas.
Jam-packed with high-energy choreography that’ll make you want to get up and dance, the promo sees the artist playing two distinct roles; a dancer dressed in white amid a crowd of fellow performers, and a sinister lady in red commanding the energetic entourage from above.
The story is set in an imposing, metaphorical club space that enhances the scale of the performance, while the art direction is clearly influenced by Renaissance dance and aesthetics, such as the chiaroscuro-esque lighting to the neck ruffles, flowing skirts and billowing linen shirts.
“At its core, the storyline is a battle between dark and light and the challenges within yourself. It’s also a celebration of community, brought to life through the power and unity of these incredible dancers," explains Vargas.
"On one of our first calls, LG told me she wanted to make a classic pop video. Hearing that instantly took me back to my 15-year-old self, growing up on her visuals, completely mesmerised and so excited! Building this fantasy with her—through iconic wardrobe moments, stunning choreography, and a world that feels both grand and intimate—was a dream.”
