In Lucky Generals’ first campaign for IRN-BRU the tagline is revived in a quirky film directed by Elliott Power, through Love Song.
The refreshed platform repositions IRN-BRU as less about physical toughness and more about inner steel – iron in your heart rather than just in your veins. The spot features a comic scene in a local corner shop where a plucky wee orange-haired lad objects to the drink being cast as ‘soft’.
“Thas is no a soft drunk,” he opines in a musical Glaswegian tones, going on to outline various IRN-BRU-esque behaviours that signal guts, grit, and unapologetic bravery. When an elderly lady is confused by his reference to granny pants and boldy reveals to all and sundry her current under garment status, he responds with “Noo thas wah um talkin abooot!” It’s a rallying cry for mavericks, oddballs, and anyone who prefers their 'soft drink' served hard.
