Hands up if you remember Numa Numa Guy. Or took your boogie tips from Evolution of Dance. Or even find yourself still humming Chocolate Rain.
OK, hands down as a) you're old now and your joints aren't what they used to be and b) you'll want to check out Firefox's delightful journey into the internet of the past.
Created by agency We Believers to coax former users back to the browser, Come Back to Firefox sees a marvellous memeunion of web stars past, back when 'creators' were just people mucking about with webcams and streaming was just what the Leave Britney Alone guy's eye makeup was doing.
Charmingly, directing collective Sunny Sixteen, working through production company nobodys, has painstakingly recreated the original looks and settings of icons including Overly Attached Girlfriend, Tay Zonday, Bad Luck Brian, Annoying Orange, Success Kid, Apparently Kid and Kelly from Shoes before bringing the whole gang together for a gloriously daft dance to O-Zone's Dragostea Din Tei, the song that made Numa Numa Guy famous in the first place.
“Firefox was there then, we're here now, and what we stand for matters more than ever,” said John Solomon, chief marketing officer at Mozilla. “People who left Firefox years ago will find a browser that's more private and gives them more control, including over AI.”
“We wanted an idea that truly belongs to Firefox,” comments Gustavo Lauria, founder and chief creative officer at We Believers, “a challenger browser that helped shape the internet's golden years and stayed independent as Big Tech took over.”
“What looked effortless in the original videos, required incredible attention to detail to recreate,” says Gabe Reiter, managing director at nobodys. “From the rooms, wardrobe, lighting, camera look, and even the imperfections, we wanted to preserve the spontaneity that made those moments resonate in the first place.”
“Being on set was a reminder of why those moments mattered,” adds Solomon. “Ordinary people making things on the internet that made it feel so surprising and fun, and that's the feeling we wanted to bring back.”
