With shaking hands and breathless execution, Open Up doesn’t stop pushing the concept.
As a young woman struggles to get into her apartment following a panic attack, the walls begin to close in around her. The room shakes, the small apartment becomes even more cramped and claustrophobic, and her panic becomes visceral as she starts to shake.
With literal moving walls and clever set design, this piece embodies the feeling of terror and entrapment. Quick and clever, Open Up gets right to the point without explaining it, without a cheeky voice-over or illustration. It just shows how it feels, and lets us take on the rest. The piece was directed by Chance Roberts and produced by Matiz for the therapy app, BetterHelp.
