Food wastage is a key environmental topic and many initiatives have been put in place to offset it, but there's one use of foodstuff that has been fairly overlooked until now: the throwing of rice at weddings.
Rather than take a bah-hambug approach and stop the tradition, McCann Worldgroup Greece, in collaboration with Wikifarmer and the Primary Agricultural Cooperative of Chalastra, has introduced The Wedding Rice - a sustainable alternative that gives new purpose to rice that would otherwise be discarded.
As explained in an artful documentary from Parasol's Danny & Loco and Panos Kostouros, the concept benefits both the environment and the farmers, with the otherwise disposed of rice being available to purchase at an exclusive price through Wikifarmer’s platform.
