It may feel like you've only just packed away the Hawaiian shirts and sun cream, but the nights are closing in, and the annual blizzard of festive commercials is beginning to appear.
First snowflake to hit the ground is Debenhams, jumping the gun with an unapologetic winter warmer set in the brand's fictional Village, an ongoing campaign platform celebrating the quirks and characters of British community life.
Starring Emily Atack and Mathew Horne, Christmas. For Everyone follows a pair of friends whose paths cross again at the village's annual Christmas party, where delayed entertainment, a power cut and a little romantic nostalgia threaten to turn a festive gathering into something altogether more memorable.
Slight age discrepancy aside (not sure what a 30-year-old man is doing comforting a teen at a bus stop), this slice of Christmas charm is nicely told by Pulse Films' Tom Day, and with a cheery cameo from a 90s legend, kicks off the year's offerings with a sweet treat.
