The Kummerl Twins join Invisible Collective

Invisible Collective welcomes Austin-based directing duo Kayla and Krista Kummerl, known professionally as The Kummerl Twins, to its growing roster of creatives.
Working across commercial and narrative filmmaking, the sisters bring a distinctly Gen Z perspective to their work with an eye for the details that make stories feel human and lived-in.
The twins have been making films together since high school, when a short they wrote and directed was selected for the SXSW High School Shorts Program. The experience brought them to Austin for the first time and ultimately led them to study film at the University of Texas at Austin. They quickly moved into commercial directing after college, landing their first major campaign for Instagram at just 22.
Now 25, the Kummerl Twins have directed campaigns for brands including Instagram, Converse, Facebook, Walmart, Corona and Disney. Having entered the industry at a young age, the sisters have watched their creative perspective evolve alongside them. While their earlier work often leaned into bright, heightened worlds and youthful energy, their recent work reflects a shift toward more grounded, emotionally nuanced storytelling.
“We started directing professionally so young that our work has really grown up with us,” share the Kummerl Twins. “For a while, being young felt like something we had to work around, but now we see it as one of our biggest creative strengths. We’re Gen Z, so when we’re making work for our generation, we’re speaking from our own experiences rather than trying to interpret them from the outside. As we’ve gotten older, our work has evolved too, and we’re excited to explore stories that reflect where we are now.”
Their latest short film, MADLIBS, marks that evolution, bringing their visual language into a more mature narrative space and opening the door to stories that explore a wider range of emotion. With a background rooted in theatre and production design continuing to inform their eye as directors, they bring a considered approach to environment, texture and the details within a frame.
Their relationship with Invisible Collective began years before the signing, when the Kummerl Twins first worked with the team on a Disney campaign early in their careers.
“From the moment we first worked with Sam and Justin, we knew they were people we genuinely wanted to be around,” say the Kummerl Twins. “There’s a real sense that they care about us as people and where we want to go creatively, not just the next project. Before we even talked about signing, we sent Sam one of our short film scripts and he immediately wanted to get on a call and talk about it. That meant so much to us. Knowing Invisible cares just as much about the narrative work as the commercial work makes it feel like the right place for this next chapter.”
"After working together on a music video for Disney/Mattel, it was immediately clear that the Kummerl Twins are set for a triumphant career,” shares Invisible Collective EP Sam Kelly. “They are exceptionally prepared and inventive, masterfully blending top-tier production design, vivid character development, and bold color and camera choices crafted for screens of every shape and size."
Looking ahead, the Kummerl Twins are currently developing their next short film, Bangs, while continuing to expand their commercial work into longer-form branded storytelling and projects that allow them to be involved in the creative process from the start.
