Yeah, yeah, The Shining, Scream and Paranormal Activity are all pretty scary movies, but you know what would up the horror factor? Cats...

Such is the thinking behind Milk Machine's delightful trio of spots for cat-snack Scrumbles, in which a malevolent moggy takes the role of monster in three pitch-perfect parodies (deliciously titled Here’s Kitty, Purranormal Cativity, and Do You Like Krunchies?).

Directed by Adam Johnson, the films mark the second collaboration between the brand and creative studio, born out of prod company Mad Cow Films; with the creative team's clear affinity for the genre shining (pun intended) through.

“It was a real pleasure coming up with these concepts," explains Creative Director Francesco Loy Bell. "From our initial chats, we knew the client wanted something a bit kooky and off the wall, and as soon as we saw the release date was set for October, we knew we had to tie it in with something spooky. We figured there’s probably a pretty big intersection between cat owners and horror fans, so a furry reimagining of some horror films felt like a fun direction to go in. Once we’d set that framework, the ideas really started forming themselves.

"As a big horror fan myself, it was a real privilege to pay homage to such iconic movies and play on that kind of ominous weirdness that cats naturally have.”

Director Johnson adds: "As anyone who has ever owned a cat will know, our furry pals can on occasion resemble the spawn of Beelzebub. I think these spots accurately reflect that...

"We had an indecent amount of fun shooting them, and trying to replicate the horror vibe on some of the hottest days of the year was quite a challenge… I’d like to think we were all sweating from sheer terror!”
