In this artfully-crafted short, titled Burning Desire, director Sabrina Nijenhuis weaves a visually-compelling and cryptic warning about the power of the sun.
Pairing intimate, 16mm vignettes with a poetic script, the story intentionally misleads us by playing out like a love letter from a young man to a romantic interest.
As it progresses, we realise the creative in fact portrays a toxic relationship between the protagonist and the sun, emphasising the duality of their love, and fear, of its rays through clever visuals illustrating skin cancer statistics.
