- Talent Rafael (Rafa) Nadal
By definition, eras end. The retirement of Roger Federer in 2022 saw one great tennis career draw to a close and, now, fellow sporting colossus Rafa Nadal has also hung up his racket.
Nadal, over his career in tennis, has won two Olympic gold medals and 22 Grand Slams, with a record 14 in Paris, forever crowning him as the King of Clay but, playing his final match on Tuesday of this week, on home soil in Spain, Nadal finally bowed out of a sport which, alongside Federer and Novak Djokovic, he has dominated for nearly two decades. With only Djokovic still playing, the era of The Big Three is almost at an end.
Nadal has been one of Nike's athletes since the age of 13 and, to mark the his retirement, the brand has released this spot, celebrating his career. Created by W+K London and directed by Martin de Thurah through Epoch Films, the beautiful black and white film honours what Nadal has given over the years; the effort he has put in, the sacrifices he had made, and the legacy he has left.
