Mynxii White: A Few Of My Favourite Things
Chromista director, photographer and visual artist, Mynxii White, reveals the cameras, curiosities, and candelabras that keep her creativity fuelled.
My workspace is a collage of influences - a candelabra on the table, fruit in a silver bowl, walls crowded with art, and a chess set waiting in the corner.
It’s not curated to be “neat” so much as lived-in mythmaking. It feels like stepping into my head - rituals, inspirations and stories waiting to happen.
I spend a lot of time here, so I like to make it beautiful and warm.
The Journal
I like to match all my in-bag basics: my iPhone, my journal or planner, and my Kindle.
All in black crocodile, and monogrammed if I can customise them.
I need to keep my tools organised so I don’t let the thoughts I have around and in them escape and disappear into the void.
Inside, it’s notes, sketches, story fragments and symbols I come back to constantly. This is where my films and projects first take shape.
It’s part diary, part spellbook.
The Leica
My Leica is my extra arm, my eyes, and my experience of my day-to-day, on and off set.
It’s been everywhere with me, from huge shoots to quiet, personal moments.
At this point, it’s less a tool and more like an extension of me.
Every scratch is a memory, and every click is a little piece of my life’s archive.
The Portable Photo Printer
This little printer spits out instant keepsakes wherever I am.
I love how it collapses digital moments back into something tangible - something I can hold, tape into my planner, or tuck onto a shelf.
It reminds me that images aren’t just files on a screen; they’re fragments of a life you can actually touch.
I love to have it with me when I travel, to transform each memory into a keepsake on paper.
The Silver Candelabra
This candelabra is basically my mood lighting, helping me settle in and focus.
When I light it, the whole room shifts into another era.
Suddenly, I’m on a film set, at a séance, or a dinner party where something surreal might happen.
It’s less about the candles and more about the atmosphere it creates - ritual, cinematic, a little dramatic (just how I like it).
The Chess Set
I’m not exactly a chess master (yet), but I love having this set in the corner.
It’s a good excuse to step away from work, sit down and reset for a minute.
Sometimes I’ll read a book there, sometimes I’ll just move a few pieces around.
It’s less about winning and more about giving myself a corner that feels calm and thoughtful.
The Polaroid
This is from my very first editorial shoot, and it’s still one of my favourites.
There’s something raw and unpolished about it that I love - it feels alive, like it still carries the nerves and excitement of that day.
I keep it close as a reminder of where I started.
The Tarot Shelf
My tarot shelf is a constellation of different decks, each one a portal into a different symbolic language.
The Dalí Tarot, in particular, feels like a merging of two worlds I inhabit: art and the esoteric.
These decks are not just for divination but for dialogue - with archetypes, the subconscious, and possibility itself.
