Not content with being one of the most exciting bands to emerge in recent years, Fontaines D.C. have also established a reputation for releasing music videos that demand as much attention as their songs, not least the acclaimed cinematic trilogy accompanying their previous album, Romance.
Directing that narrative adventure was ProdCo's brilliantly named Luna Carmoon, so it's hardly surprising that, for Japan, a track from their newly released album Dopamine Chamber, the band have brought her back behind the camera.
Focusing on a disturbing love triangle of sorts, Japan sees Angèle Metzger's Rosa and Charlie Heaton's Kaspar embark on a clandestine romance, with the overbearing behaviour of Rosa's husband, played by Sean Black, ultimately leading to a rather sticky end.
Written and directed by Carmoon, and tying in neatly with the album's overarching themes of escape and desire, this striking piece is (we hope) the start of another oddball story from both band and filmmaker.
