La Pac signs Vincent Lobelle
The French comedy director behind two decades of award-winning work for Canal+, Burger King, McDonald’s and Volkswagen joins the Paris production company.
Over some twenty years, Vincent Lobelle has made France laugh for Canal+, Burger King, McDonald’s, Volkswagen, Uber Eats, Orange and even the César Awards.
He has directed some of the country’s best-known talent, including Kad Merad, Jonathan Cohen, Florence Foresti, Jamel Debbouze, Ramzy, SCH and Sophie Marceau.
His films have become cultural touchstones in French pop culture and won at all award shows, from the Club des Directeurs Artistiques to Cannes Lions. He has also shown a more emotional register, notably with campaigns for animal welfare charity 30 Millions d’Amis and sports retailer Intersport.
Lobelle started out as a copywriter. At TBWA Paris, he and creative partner Stephen Cafiero were named France’s top creative team before moving into directing as Les Elvis. The duo produced a string of award-winning campaigns and a cult feature film, Les Dents de la nuit (Vampire Party). Les Elvis split in 2008 and Lobelle went solo.
His work is built on sharp observation, precise staging, spot-on casting and a taste for the absurd, always with a certain tenderness.
“Vincent is the French Seth Rogen. He always looks at his characters, and the situations he puts them in, with kindness and intelligence. His humour is never mean-spirited. He’s also an extremely nice guy to work with.” said Jérôme Denis, La Pac.
“People know Vincent for comedy, but they often forget how capable he is of moving an audience with films that are far less funny and very powerful. His work for Intersport, 30 Millions d’Amis and Orange opens the door to other genres: more emotional, even spectacular films.” Matthieu Elkaim, MD, La Pac.
