“Agonising periods? Pain is normal. Irregular menstruation? Go on the pill. Still trying for a baby? Silly girl you left it too late.” Such is the dismissal and negative judgements often placed on women. Not to mention the fact that being ‘cranky’ at certain times of one’s cycle seems somehow to be worthy of blame.

This film, titled Ooh, Someone's Hormonal, was created for the at-home hormone and fertility testing service Hertility, by female-founded creative content agency, Be The Fox.

Directed by Liz Unna, through Creators Inc., it uses dance to express the confusion and shame women often feel about their bodies. The emotive narration highlights how women have been excluded by science and dismissed by a healthcare system that doesn’t understand them and was never built for them.

The dance is set to music from patriarchy-smashing pop artist Rebecca Lucy Taylor, AKA Self-Esteem.
