Gusto Film announce the return of their Matchbox Film Awards, a competition aimed at inspiring the next generation of UK filmmakers.

This year, the awards will partner with clothing brand Lucy & Yak, who boasts a following of over 900,000. Their fashion platform will amplify the outreach, briefing the young and emerging creative community on an exciting filmmaking challenge.

The Matchbox Film Awards invites aspiring filmmakers aged 16-23 to submit a 30-second film responding to a creative brief. This year’s brief is - ‘Create a 30” film to make the World Think Differently about Comfort’, offering participants creative freedom to explore diverse storytelling techniques.

The initiative is entirely non-profit, funded by us and supported by our sponsors Park Village, Epidemic Sound, Blackmagic Design and YCUK, driven by a commitment to support young creatives as they navigate the often-isolating film industry. "We do it because we believe in breaking down barriers for young creative people, helping them find their way into what can be a very tough industry to get into," says Tom Staniford, Creative Director and Founder at Gusto Film.

The competition will culminate in an exciting awards ceremony at Park Village, in London, on Tuesday 26th November, where the top 10 shortlisted films will be screened. The event will include a panel Q&A with industry experts and networking opportunities, allowing participants to connect with established professionals in the field. Winners will receive exciting prizes, including commercial directing masterclasses, studio hire, editing software, library music subscriptions and one-on-one mentorship.

The Matchbox Film Awards not only celebrate young talent but also provide invaluable connections and insights that can shape their careers. Last year's winner, Jake Sefton, impressed judges with his film Aeon, showcasing the potential and creativity of the next generation of filmmakers
