electriclime°officially kicked off its community-focused programming at its brand-new Alserkal Avenue space with the inaugural event, spring ‘25 young filmmakers, headlined by Oscar-nominated director Dania Bdeir.

The exclusive gathering welcomed film students from American University of Sharjah, SAE University College Dubai, Middlesex University Dubai, and Zayed University UAE for an intimate evening of insight, inspiration, and industry networking.

The event was moderated by Omar Ibrahim, electriclime°'s Culture Curator, and featured an in-depth discussion with Bdeir. The filmmaker shared her personal journey, from her beginnings in Lebanon to global acclaim with her award-winning short Warsha, which premiered at Sundance and was nominated for an Academy Award.

Bdeir, who previously collaborated with electriclime° on a campaign for Estée Lauder, offered career advice during an open Q&A session, giving the aspiring filmmakers a rare opportunity to ask questions, seek guidance, and hear firsthand about the challenges and triumphs of working in commercial and narrative filmmaking.

The evening also featured a curated reel of student work projected on the studio’s gallery screen, sparking conversations around form, technique, and storytelling. Students and guests had the opportunity to connect with electriclime° team members and other industry professionals during the networking session.

In partnership with Advanced Media, two Sony cameras were awarded to standout student proposals. Each participant submitted a brief outline of how they’d use the camera, from short film loglines to experimental project ideas, with the winners handpicked by Bdeir and the electriclime° team.

“It was an inspiring night,” said Omar Ibrahim. “We wanted to make the future of our industry feel important and heard. I’m glad that these young filmmakers left with something tangible, not just new tools or advice, but a feeling of being seen, and a community to grow within.”

The event signals electriclime°’s ongoing commitment to nurturing emerging voices and building creative spaces that blur the lines between art and commercial storytelling.
