Eyes Wide Shut meets Belly as we take a late-night walk on the LA streets with DSTRCT in Tear It Up.
Director Joe Nankin lets us spend a night in the life and mind of DSTRCT with a film noir twist as we follow him greeting fans, paparazzi chasing him and partying yet it turns out we are not the only ones following his every move.
After performing a show, DSTRCT and his entourage decide to continue the night in fashion. Drinking champagne, dancing, taking selfies and generally living it up. In the midst of all of this, DSTRCT is in the middle of it all watching everything around him and notices a mysterious figure watching him intensely. Is this man a figment of DSTRCT’s imagination or is something more sinister at play here.
Joe Nankin uses a cinematic approach by mixing mystery, surreal elements and aggressive style to convey the idea of fame and all that comes with it, leaving certain aspects unanswered allowing the viewer to draw their own conclusions. A type of David Lynch remix of rap video tropes that is very rarely seen today.
