A simple concept can often be most effective when it comes to sensitively portraying life’s heavier issues in advertising – these poignant short films from Irish gender-based violence agency Cuan being an excellent example.
Delicately directed by Zak Razvi, the one-minute films centre around two characters, Emer and Orla, who read aloud from a book a raw and emotionally-charged excerpt of their own experiences of abuse.
As the spot draws to a close, they place their novel upon a mountain of other books that suddenly appears around them, a visual metaphor for the vast quantity of gender-based violence stories that tragically go untold due to fear or shame. The campaign aims to empower women with similar experiences to share their own stories.
