The Citizen Guide Program - which pairs immigrants with tutors to help them practice English, study for the civics exam and prepare for their citizenship interview - has unveiled this touching campaign film, titled Earned It.
Directed by Indian-Polish filmmaker Henry DaCosta through Strike Anywhere, the spot tells the moving story of the final steps in a man’s path to earning his U.S. citizenship, and the friendship he develops with an American tutor along the way.
The film was shot entirely on location in Montana with a crew built from local production talent, and scored to snowpool, an original collaboration between composer and songwriter Emile Mosseri (Minari) and composer Julianna Barwick.
