When it comes to narrating the natural world, there are few voices as respected and revered as Mr Sir David Frederick Attenborough.
However, for its exploration of the digital domain ahead of the upcoming release of World of Warcraft: Forever, Blizzard Entertainment has enlisted another trusted British narrator, albeit a funnier one.
Following a beeftastic avatar of comedian Bill Bailey as he explores the fantastical world, Planet Azeroth is the first of a three-part content series designed to both entice new players to the iconic realm and tickle those familiar with direwolves and murlocs.
Smartly allowing Bailey to unleash his comedic charm, with "these rat-like trogladites, or trog-like ratladites" being a particular highlight, the entertaining episode, made in collaboration with Burson, is a wonderfully daft way to introduce newcomers to Azeroth while giving seasoned adventurers something to chuckle at.
“I've always been fascinated by the natural world, but nothing quite prepares you for Azeroth,” says Bill Bailey. “The creatures are extraordinary, the landscapes are stunning and, unlike many other nature documentaries I’ve been involved in, I managed to stay dry and not get bitten by something. It was enormous fun exploring this strange and wonderful world.”
“For more than 20 years, players have fallen in love with Azeroth itself - its landscapes, mysteries, creatures, and the stories hidden around every corner,” explains Holly Longdale, executive producer of World of Warcraft. World of Warcraft: Forever is our chance to revisit that world through fresh eyes, and World of Warcraft: Planet Azeroth captures that spirit perfectly.
"Bill's curiosity, humour, and genuine sense of wonder make him the ideal guide to a world that has been home to millions of players, while also providing a warm introduction for those discovering Azeroth for the very first time.”
The first episode is available now on the official World of Warcraft YouTube channel, with the second arriving on 31 October and the final instalment on 8 November.
