You can always trust Spike Jonze to stray from the path of convention, and with his latest short for Gucci – a 30-minute comedic narrative centring on a birthday party for Barbara Gucci, co-written and directed by Jonze and Halina Reijn – he both laughs in the face of attention spans and creates an intriguing alternative to a runway show.
Commissioned by the brand’s new creative director, Demna, The Tiger premiered at screening events in Milan and New York as an alternative to the catwalk classic, incorporating both his debut collection, La Famiglia, and a truly star-studded cast: Demi Moore, Edward Norton, Ed Harris, Elliot Page, Keke Palmer, Alia Shawkat, Julianne Nicholson, Heather Lawless, Ronny Chieng, Kendall Jenner and Alex Consani.
Shot through MJZ, the film makes the most of its impressive players' comedic and dramatic chops; racking up the intensity and surreality to a level that'll probably leave viewers needing a drop of the 'soft soul'...
