The horrific facts speak for themselves. On average, across England and Wales, at least one woman per week is killed by a male partner or ex-partner.

This is from a report by the Office for National Statistics, year ending March 2023. This is in a time when many feel that women have achieved parity, equality, certain freedoms. Yet this level of fatal domestic abuse doubtless exceeds the frequency of witch burnings in the middle ages.

Titled The Ignored Emergency, this hard-hitting campaign created by House 337 for Women’s Aid comprises two powerful spots that reveal other shameful statistics.

Titled Fire Safety and Car Safety, the films at first appear as classic safety videos depicting familiar emergency scenarios. Yet each has a disturbing twist and both highlight the extensive, often hidden nature of domestic abuse and the lack of awareness around the facts…

Women are 50 times more likely to be injured by their partner than in a house fire and are twice as likely to die at their partner’s hands than from smoke or gas inhalation.

And women are over three times more likely to be killed by a partner than by not wearing a seat belt.
