Rogue FilmsREBEL platform announce a new signing in the form of the cool, creative and sometimes quirky Thomas Cervenca.

Based in Vienna and originally a successful and established editor, Cervenca made the full transition to directing in 2023 and has since been making films that keep you guessing, across commercials and music videos.

Bringing his unique creativity, slightly abstract and unconventional style to every piece of work, Cervenca’s latest film, Always Ketchup, sparked the idea for something unusual.

Cervenca decided to show the journey of preparing an order of fish and chips, highlighting how the new restaurant uses local ingredients, herbs and vegetables from their own garden, and fresh fish sourced from the lake right next to the restaurant.

The tone of the piece intentionally breaks away from the typical, polished fine dining aesthetic, leaning into something a bit weird and playful to match the concept of the restaurant. No surprise that it has just been awarded the converted Vimeo Staff Pick.

Cervenca explains his idea for the film, “Always Ketchup tries to do with its visuals what the restaurant is doing with the food: breaking conventions and challenging expectations around what high-end dining can look and feel like when it's less formal, more personal, and still top quality.

The entire concept for the film was developed by me. I really liked their approach to the restaurant and saw a chance to make something creative and a bit unconventional and I tried to get the most out of what was possible with a very small budget.  I had the creative freedom to bring every concept I had to life, nothing was off-limits, nothing was “too much,” and that kind of freedom is a rare treat.”

So why REBEL. For Cervenca, “I love Charlie’s energy plus he immediately got me and my work. With this instant understanding I knew he'd be absolutely the right person to represent me in the truest way possible. I am really excited to see what I can do in London. I love the unusual and London is full of it.  There are so many progressive brands out there and I can’t wait to get the chance to really push my creativity with the weird and the wonderful.  On top of this I could see my name fitting very nicely alongside all the other REBELS. on the roster,”

Why Cervenca for REBEL? Charlie Roberson, Rogue Head of Talent and REBEL EP comments, “I absolutely love Thomas’ style, he’s a total REBEL through and through. A nonconformist in the best way, who stands-by his creative principles.”
