What’s the best music video you’ve seen recently and why?

Shlohmo Feat. Salem - Chore Boy. It’s weird, conceptual but simple and straight forward. There is a 7-Eleven miniature in it and I love miniatures, and I love 7-Elevens.

And I also like strobe stuff, I would hate to have epilepsy.

What’s the first music video you remember being impressed by?

The Kingdom Hearts 1 Opening on PlayStation 2. When I was younger, I was sick at the hospital for a time and my dad bought me the PlayStation 2 with Kingdom Hearts

I was really bad at the game, so I ended up watching the opening on repeat and fell in love with it. It’s corny and dramatic, like me. That video is one of the first that got me into pursue image and narrative craft.

And what’s your all-time favourite music video?

Impossible to choose one. I’ll take two if you’ll allow me.

The Prodigy - Smack My Bitch Up came out when I wasn’t even born. My parents showed it to me (sketchy education am I right?) I love the violence, the POV concept, love how unhinged it is.

Gorillaz - DARE. This is a baby Ferina childhood classic. I really see myself in the character Noodles since I was a kid, and I was kind of intrigued by that big head. Mostly, everything Gorillaz made was an instant hit for me, the universe craft, the characters, the blurry narrative. The soft kinkiness, everything works.

What other directors/artists do you look to for inspiration?

There’s a lot of them and I mostly prefer to gatekeeper my inspirations but for you I’ll make an exception.

I’m mostly into visual artists and photographers rather than usual directors. Shin ‘Ichiro Watanabe, anime series creator and visual artist. The man behind Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Macross Plus, I mean… should I keep going ?

Visual artist Hiroshi Kondo and Joe Pease, plus illustrator Little Thunder.

I love anything animated, surreal, drawn, funny abstract but visible, with an attraction for emotion, human interactions, and untold desires and feelings.

What are you listening to at the moment?

The Hellp, James K, Nourished By Time, Fakemink, Malibu, Dijon.

I love this thing they call music. It’ll never die.

What’s your favourite bit of tech, whether for professional or personal use?

my new dildo maybe?

If not, I’m wearing headphones 18 hours a day listening to anything. Maybe because I may have ADHD but mostly because I hate to have to talk to my flatmate, even if I love him.

What artist(s) would you most like to work with and why?

In fashion: Mowalola maybe. She’s been shaking things up in the fashion sphere for a time. She’s unapologetic and brutal with her ideas and I value that. She’s not afraid to be violent and expressive, I prefer non-consensual stuff mostly. If not her, Demna Gvasalia. What he’s been cooking up for Gucci intrigues me, in a good way.

In music: Jamie XX. As a french person, he is my best representative of UK music heritage. His sonic signature is quite unique, blending electronic, rock, pop and other unnamed stuff.

How do you feel the promo industry has changed since you started in it?

I’m young and just getting started, so I don’t know.

People say it’s changing fast in a negative way, and I kinda sense why boomers are freaking out when they compare nowadays’s work ethic to their years.

But I try to not pay attention to "the industry" and just focus on make good stuff that I like, staying curious about anything and respond correctly and smartly to advertising demands that’s all.

The industry and the trends is just noise, I try to keep my head down and focus on the work. Also, rent in Paris is crazy so I don’t have time to whine around that much.

Where do you see the music video industry being in five years’ time?

Somewhere nice I hope. Somewhere where labels give us a little more trust, money and opportunities to express ourselves as young directors - though music videos but also content, creation overall. Hopefully somewhere they stop gatekeeping all the big opportunities to old directors. Let the kids have the fun as well please.

Tell us one thing about yourself that most people won’t know…

I’m quite flexible, I can put my right leg behind my head. And I can beatbox.
