Packer Productions signs PACO

PACO makes comedy out of characters who take the ordinary just a little too seriously. His films are carefully cast, sharply observed and often one small step away from the absurd.

Lisbon based, PACO's film experience began in fiction and while studying at the University of Porto, he directed Film Without a Story, which won the Grand Prix at the European Capital of Culture Festival.

In McDonald's David's Hair, a change of hairstyle gives a man stuck in his routine a taste for rebellion. DoorDash's Karate turns a message about flexible work into a 1970s martial arts film, while EDP's The Square Head takes a rigid personality rather literally. Different ideas, but each shows PACO's knack for finding the joke in the character.

"PACO knows how to make comedy feel effortless," says Richard Packer, founder of Packer Productions. "The performances are brilliant, the worlds are beautifully made, and he knows exactly how far to push an idea. He's a perfect fit for us."

For PACO, the decision to join Packer came without a spreadsheet, a strategy meeting, or six months of soul-searching". He describes it as possibly joining "a very sophisticated comedy cult”.
