What’s the most creative advertising idea you’ve seen recently?

The Hornbach film with the hands, pulling someone back to work to do home improvement. Simple idea, great execution, funny. Fits the earlier campaigns. Stands out.

What website(s) do you use most regularly?

The news websites.... and I shouldn’t. It looks like we are going back in time and that we don’t learn from history.

What’s the most recent piece of tech that you’ve bought?

A really good electronic drum device for my son. He wants to become a musician. I love him.

What product could you not live without?

Reading glasses, unfortunately. My directing would be much sloppier without them.

What’s the best film you’ve seen over the last year?

I loved watching Poor Things. Watched it two times in a week. What a great film!

What film do you think everyone should have seen?

The Apartment(1960), by Billy Wilder. This comedy was so far ahead of its time. A masterclass in comedy. Also Playtime, by Jacques Tati.

What’s your preferred social media platform?

Most of the time I spend on Instagram. But I hate it too. It’s algorithms definitely makes us more stupid, and circle around too much at the same places.

What’s your favourite TV show?

Atlanta. Next level comedy. Playing around with social and economic themes of the times in a very smart and funny way!

What’s your favourite podcast?

Experience for Beginners, a famous Dutch comedian talks with creative people (artists musicians, actors, etc) about art and the making of art.

What show/exhibition has most inspired you recently?

I promised my son - after I forced him to go to Moma and the Whitney - that we would visit the more teen-friendly Museum of Natural History in New York. We totally lost time watching these old-school dioramas with taxidery animals. An open time capsule.

If you could only listen to one music artist from now on, who would it be?

That would be an absolute nightmare! The ultimate algorithm leading me back to the same musician over-and-over again…aaaarghhhhh! Then I rather not listen to music at all. I love the variation in music and also discovering new music.

If there was one thing you could change about the advertising industry, what would it be?

Capitalism.

Who or what has most influenced your career?

Jean Pierre Jeunet and Marc Caro. They worked together in animation and advertising before they started shooting live-action feature films. Their first feature, Delicatessen, inspired me to shoot movies with friends and go to film school.

What scares you the most?

Climate change.

What makes you happiest?

Nice people!
