As the “watch it again” scroll on our Netflix feeds only ever grows longer, one man has finally reached the end of his Netflix queue.
Streaming in 2020 took on new importance as many of us were forced to quarantine, stay home, and basically get in touch with our long-lost loves of television. Amid the chaos, one man found meaning. In a song and dance number ripped out of a musical episode, We Watched It All extolls the heavy hitters of Netflix, from The Crown to Lucifer to Tiger King. Within the piece, AKQA manages to create an ad for Netflix that shows off all the things we loved about 2020’s media, rather than the parts of the year that we didn’t love so much.
The very fun part of this music video is the clear practical effects and production decisions made. It’s not all green screen, there’s clearly a set with a number of moving parts, props, and costumes from some of our favorites across the year. It’s very intentional, and director Nadia Lee Cohen of Anonymous Content captured the energy of the year with a fun, exciting twist.
