If you’re trying to reach the sweet spot between music-makers and comedy obsessives, Matt Berry and Jemaine Clement are just about the perfect spokespeople.
Both are multi-instrumentalists as well as seasoned jesters, so it makes perfect sense that they’ve been chosen to front Telepathic Instruments’ How to Orchid demo/ad, playing to their dry delivery and anarchic streak.
Directed by Thomas Dunphy, the film sees Berry flagrantly ignore Clement’s omniscient narration as he attempts to steer him through the synth’s selling points, resulting in a spot that delivers as many belly laughs as “oooh, that’s smart” moments.
Bonus fun fact: As if Berry’s 11-album career isn’t enough of a musical endorsement, he’s also the “Hey!” voice (and, less excitingly, the guitar line) on the Strictly Come Dancing theme.
