Here at shots we've clapped eyes on a fair few images over the years – so many dancing pixels, so many miles of footage, scenes, symbols, witty visual metaphors, cinematic splendours etc., plus plenty of clichés and humdrummery.
So when a director and crew bring something so genuinely, peeper-poppingly fresh to the screen, one is aghast at the ingenuity of it and can only gasp with glee: “Golly! I’ve never seen anything like that before.”
This is the case with Luke White’s exhilarating and mysteriously moving dance film, Boy Inside. Here, Jacob Jonas’s thrilling insect-inspired choreography is enhanced by gorgeous cinematography from Mathieu Brelière, shimmering sound design by Mutant Jukebox, a nifty edit from Matt Nee and Anna Meller, plus cool colour and VFX by Time Based Arts.
