Whether it’s cuddling up on the sofa for an episode of iconic soap opera EastEnders or catching Radio 4 with a cup of coffee at the weekend, the BBC plays an undeniable role in our routines and family traditions, forged over generations, all over Britain.
It’s this warming feeling of nostalgia, comfort and connection that new–land director Libby Burke Wilde tapped into in this lovely new series of ten-second idents for the British public service broadcaster, developed in-house by BBC Creative.
The authentic, slice-of-life vignettes capture intimate moments shared between a diverse cast of families across the UK, each soundtracked by a different BBC programme, painting a tender and poignant portrait of modern Britain.
The director added: “These films are all about triggering emotion in recognisable moments that make up people’s lives. They are small and intimate and should be immediately familiar to people up and down the country.
My approach is often to entrench myself as deeply as possible in the subject, feeling out every element to make the most authentic film I can. These needed to feel observational and real, not commercialised. With that in mind, I wanted to take a true documentary approach with these films. These are real people in their real homes and environments.”
