Celebrating the special place its Streetwise marque holds in South African youth culture, fried chicken brand KFC has launched this inspiring campaign in collaboration with Ogilvy Johannesburg to support the country’s young creators.
Rappers Khuli Chana, Blxckie and 25K collaborated with Patriot Films director Sam Coleman to create the slick spot, Original Anthems, which follows a seamless chain-reaction of creativity where one person’s moment of inspiration drives the next.
Notable South African creators who appear in the piece include Kind Kid toymaker Sanele Qwabe, “Nail Pimp” Nailed Ntswembu, the Island Gals skaters, fashion designer Ruberto Scholtz, visual director Rowan Sakarombe, custom car pimper Ofentse Mphatsoe and metal band Botswana Metalheads.
“This felt like a little departure for KFC, almost like playing in a space traditionally held by apparel brands like Adidas etc. If you’re making a campaign about originality then your execution also needs to be original. You have to walk the walk” says Coleman.
