Framestore expands global design talent roster
John Likens joins as Executive Creative Director in New York; Mariano Melman Carrara named Senior Design Producer in London.
Creative studio Framestore has announced two major additions to its global design team, welcoming Executive Creative Director John Likens in New York and Senior Design Producer Mariano Melman Carrara in London.
The appointments signal Framestore’s continued commitment to pushing creative boundaries across live-action, design, and immersive storytelling.
An Emmy-winning director, Likens brings with him an exceptional cinematic pedigree, known for title sequences on blockbuster hits such as Deadpool & Wolverine, Deadpool 2, Eternals, Iron Man 3, and The Night Of Warrior. Most recently, he helmed the opening titles for Apple TV+’s Your Friends & Neighbors. His commercial work spans global campaigns for Apple, Meta, and Shiseido, with a visual style rooted in bold storytelling and high-end craft.
In addition to his role at Framestore’s New York studio, Likens joins Framestore Pictures, the company’s live-action production division, where he will continue creating visually arresting content that merges high-concept direction with the studio’s best-in-class VFX and design.
“Throughout my career, I’ve watched Framestore continue to set the standard for visual excellence,” said Likens. “It’s an incredible honour to now be a part of that legacy and help shape its next chapter.”
Joining Framestore London, Carrara is a multi-talented producer and artist whose award-winning work for clients like Meta and Google has spanned AR/VR, motion design, and immersive interactive storytelling. His previous roles at Passion, Nexus, and The Mill saw him work across the entire production pipeline, from concept development and storyboarding to final delivery. His dual perspective as both creative and producer gives him a unique ability to merge visionary ideas with strong execution.
“I’m excited to be joining Framestore’s design team,” said Carrara. “There’s an incredible depth of talent here, and I’m eager to help amplify that work, connect with new audiences and partner with clients to push the boundaries of what’s possible through bold, ambitious design.”
David Lochhead, Head of Design at Framestore London, adds: “Mariano’s unparalleled expertise in motion design and VFX is both vast and inspiring. I look forward to working closely with him as we continue to elevate our design team’s creative excellence and reputation.”
Lochhead continued, “Bringing in both John and Mariano marks a significant step forward for our teams in New York and London. With standout episodic portfolio work, including the Emmy-winning Ms. Marvel, and exciting new commercial projects on the horizon, I’m excited to watch them help shape the next chapter of Framestore’s creative journey.”
