Editor of the Year: Joe Guest
With his company, Final Cut, picking up Editing House of the Year, it's no great surprise that the industry titan should also pick up an award. We chat to Guest about his impressive body of work and how the future looks to him.
Congratulations on winning Editor of the Year; why do you think the last 12 months has been so successful?
It's been a great year with some fantastic campaigns. I’ve been very lucky.
What do you think it is about your work that makes you such a trusted collaborator?
I'm fast and go with my gut which is usually right.
Lacoste was great to work on with all the stunt work and practical effects.
I try to keep it fun and sometimes profesional.
What films were you most excited about working on this year? Did they live up to the hype?
Anything with Megaforce or Dougal as I know it'll be amazing.
Lacoste was great to work on with all the stunt work and practical effects.

What was the nicest surprise?
Winning editor of the year again. Thanks.
As much as I enjoy cutting on set it doesn't equate to sitting somewhere quiet and having time to try a bunch of different things.
Do you see the craft of editing evolving in the near future and, if so, what shape do you think it might take?
I hope that people still understand how much work and time goes into the edit.
The schedules keep getting shorter but they still expect the same results.

What have been the biggest challenges over the last 12 months?
Not accepting every job I’ve been requested on.
Above: Joe Guest
What other work from this year have you most admired?
I'm proud of Final Cut there's been some great work coming out of all the offices.
The NY Times spots edited by Jim Helton were incredible.
How important is recognition for the work you produce, and what does winning the Editor of the Year mean for you?
I was amazed and humbled to win editor of the year again this year.
It makes my mum very proud.
What are your hopes and plans across 2020?
I hope I can continue to work with some of the greatest directors on the planet please.
