Director Floris Kingma Levels Up: The GTA Legends Reunion You Didn't Know You Needed
Director Floris Kingma’s (CZAR) latest ad hits like a fully modded signal flare to the GTA faithful, casting Ned Luke and Shawn Fonteno together feels less like a celebrity cameo and more like a resurrection of gaming mythologies. This isn’t just nostalgia bait; it’s a love letter to everyone who’s memorised every car, radio station, alleyway, and crack‑in‑the‑wall cheat code.
It’s nice to see that ASUS has the guts to make another ad (it’s a follow up of last years campaign) that focuses on the hardcore gamers. Nostalgia in a bold way. If you’re the kind who pauses mid‑game to admire the texture of a cracked sidewalk or decode billboard taglines, this ad rewards you. Backgrounds are packed with references: familiar items (we loved the Employ-yee-yee of the month sign), familiar sounds, classic lines and other glancing nods to earlier GTA architecture. Kingma doesn’t just drop Easter eggs; he scatters them like power‑ups, daring the viewer to catch them all without spoiling the fun for everyone else.
An extra star for the sound design. It might go unnoticed, which is a good thing, but the sound adds to the gaming flavour without losing the feeling that it is a film. Sounds different, doesn’t it?
